Patrick, born in the late 4th century in Britain was captured by Irish pirates at about the age of 16. While not religious or spiritual himself, it was in these moments of tending sheep and other work during his years of captivity that he received a deep spiritual awakening and sense of God’s holy presence.
In a dream, God told Patrick to escape in which he returned to Britain, only with a fervent desire to go back and convert the Irish people to Christ and the one and true faith.
Studying for the priesthood and eventually being ordained a Bishop, Patrick became a missionary and went back to Ireland to do God’s will and good work.
Saint Patrick was said to have used simple explanations to explain the faith, such as the explanation of the Trinity in comparing it with the three leaves of a shamrock. Believed to have died on March 17, today we recall the solemnity of this servant of God and ask God to do His will despite how difficult the struggle may be.
