Palm Sunday: Hosanna in the Highest!

The Entry of Christ into Jerusalem by Peter Paul Rubens from Wikimedia Commons

We recall the start of Holy Week today in which Jesus enters into Jerusalem on a colt. Such an occasion brings about a crowd who spread branches on the road & lay their cloaks out for such a grand entry. Mark’s gospel chapter 11 has the crowd chanting, Hosanna, which means a plea for divine help or to save.

How quickly will events unfold for such a welcome to be brought with shouts of “crucify him.”

Today we journey with Christ Jesus for the start of Holy Week where we wave our own palm branches to prepare for Jesus’s great sacrifice for each and every one of us.

How can we prepare for the entry of Christ Jesus this week into our own hearts in which we too proclaim Hosanna! Let us set aside time each day in meditation & prayer as we journey with our Lord this week.

Our call to mission as being made in the image and likeness of God is two-fold: to have authentic relationships with our fellow man, and to have an authentic personal encounter with our living God through His Son Jesus Christ who is, who was and who will always be. Let us not bicker, spew hate, or worry about trivial matters when we can become better images of our self to walk humbly with our loving God.
